Solid Recovered Fuel pellets can be further processed into Syngas via gasification. Syngas is a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen (often with additional additives including carbon dioxide and methane) and has many uses. It can be used either as a fuel by itself, blended with other fuels, or it can be processed into a range of other useful products. By converting waste into syngas, we are removing bulk refuse from landfill, that over time would have released carbon dioxide and methane into the air, without any utility.
The European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive 2 (RED II) has set a target for 3.5% of all transport fuel to be composed of biofuels by 2030. Syngas, is a sustainable answer to this as it can be converted into: bio-methanol, ethanol and biodiesel.
